“Diógenes” by director Leonardo Barbuy, won two Silver Biznagas, one of them was in the Best Ibero-American Film category.
In addition to having been the guest of honor at the 26th Malaga Film Festival - MAFIZ, Peruvian participation was a success, as five national productions managed to obtain different awards at the event that serves as a showcase for the work of professionals in the audiovisual industry.
“Diógenes” became one of the winning films of this edition by obtaining two Silver Biznagas in the ZonaCine section: Best Ibero-American Film and Best Direction. The film production, which was written, directed and music by Leonardo Barbuy La Torre and with its world premiere at the Spanish festival, tells the story of two brothers who are raised in isolation by their father, a painter from Tablas de Sarhua. The Peruvian film will soon premiere in France at the Cinélatino Festival in Tolouse.
Other films that also triumphed at MAFIZ were “La Otra Orilla” (The Other Shore) by Francesca Canepa, which received the Films to Festivals award; “4Eber” by Ximena Valdivia, which won the Sanfic award; and “Estados Generales” (General States) by Mauricio Freyre, who won the Málaga WIP Iberoamérica. Previously, the Peruvian documentary “Hatun Phaqcha, Tierra Sana” by Delia Ackerman had won the Silver Biznaga for best feature film in the official section Cinema Cocina Competition.
Promotion of Peruvian locations
The Peruvian delegation that participated in MAFIZ worked hard to promote our country as a filming destination, since in recent years a growing number of international productions have been filmed in Peru, among which the Netflix series “La Reina del Sur” (The Queen of the South) and the blockbuster “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” stand out; audiovisual productions with the support and continuous accompaniment of PROMPERÚ, through Film in Peru, the country is positioned as a cinematographic destination through its locations, offering national and international productions an unforgettable experience to film.
