Peruvian film "The Weight of Air" wins Greek Film Center Award
The short film about the strength of Peruvian women was directed by Peruvian producer Carlos Ormeño Palma and was the only Latin American production in the selection.
Peruvian cinema continues to reap triumphs! "The weight of air" is a film project directed by Peruvian Carlos Ormeño Palma that has just won the Greek Film Center Award at the 45th edition of the Drama Short Film Festival in Greece. The national production previously went through a project training laboratory known as Pitching Lab, being the only one selected from all of Latin America. After beating fifteen projects, the national short film was the winner in one of the oldest festivals of its kind and the most important in the region.
The film tells the story of a young Peruvian girl named Rocío who confronts the injustices of her country's judicial system, which released her father after he sexually abused her as a child. "The weight of air" is a call for reflection because women do have a voice and a decision about their lives. "While this story is born from the depths of my soul, I want to dedicate this award to the millions of girls around the world who are raped and who to this day seek justice," said the director during his speech at the award ceremony.
"The weight of air" has already been previously awarded by the Ministry of Culture as the best short film production in 2022 and highlights include the performances of Pamela Mendoza Arpi (“Song Without Name”, or “Canción sin nombre” in Spanish - Goya Awards 2022), Liliana Trujillo ("Rosa Chumbe") and Fernando Bacilio ("El Mudo").
