Peru present at the International Film Festival in Guadalajara
Through its FILM IN PERÚ platform, the country seeks to promote Peru as a destination for film locations.
Peruvian cinema for the world! Our country was present at the International Film Festival in Guadalajara, Mexico, which took place between June 3rd and 9th. With this participation, the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) (Promoción del Perú para la Exportación y el Turismo), through its FILM IN PERÚ platform, continues to promote and position the nation as a destination for film locations.
The festival divides its selection of films in competition and out of competition, with films produced between 2022 and 2023. It is in these sections that Peruvian productions such as “Diógenes,” by director Leonardo Barbuy, “The Innocents,” by Germán Tejada, and “Night Has Come and It Wishes to Take Me,” by Pablo Tizón participated.
María Teresa Villena Ramirez, Director of PROMPERÚ in Mexico, commented “We are very happy to participate once again in this significant event of the Latin American film industry where our fundamental objective is to put Peru in the sights of the big production houses, not only national but international.”
“An example of the development that our country is having as a destination for film locations is the film “Transformers: Rise of the Beast” which in November 2021, with a production team made up of more than 800 people, completed filming in Peru (Cusco and San Martín) and the premiere in Mexico will be next June 8th,” he added.
Scenarios for large productions
Peru has incredible locations throughout its territory, which includes a coastal strip bathed by the waters of the Pacific Ocean, a dense Amazonian jungle, arid deserts, Andean mountains with snow-capped mountains that exceed 6000 meters above sea level, canyons considered among the deepest on the planet, as well as countless rivers and lakes. All this makes it a destination with multiple locations and infinite possibilities for the international film market, thus favoring cultural and economic development.
In the last year, PROMPERÚ, through FILM IN PERU, provided continuous support to six other major national and international productions, such as Mochileros (Backpackers) by Tondero (Peru) for Netflix, La Reina del Sur (The Queen of the South) Season 3 for Telemundo and Netflix (United States ), Don't Look Up by Netflix (United States) and Scouting for the Movie Lady Nazca (France).
